How to Prepare for a Garage Cleanout

Twenty minutes of prep can cut the cost of a cleanout and make sure nothing you wanted to keep leaves in the truck.

Make a keep list before the crew arrives

The most common cleanout regret is something being loaded that should have stayed. Write down or physically tag whatever is staying — tools, holiday bins, sports equipment, paperwork boxes.

On our jobs, nothing on the keep list moves. If we are unsure about an item, we ask before it goes in the truck.

Pull hazardous items out first

Set paint cans, chemicals, motor oil, propane tanks and pesticides aside in one spot. No hauler can take them, and separating them early stops the crew from having to re-sort the pile mid-job.

Clear a working path

  • Move cars out of the driveway so the truck can back in
  • Unlock the side gate if the yard is part of the job
  • Clear a walking lane from the garage door to the driveway
  • Note any HOA or gate access requirements for us in advance

Separate anything worth donating

If specific items should go to donation rather than disposal, group them together and say so. We route usable furniture and household goods to donation partners whenever they are accepting that category.

Book with realistic expectations

A single-bay garage is often a two-hour job. A packed three-car garage with an attic can take most of a day. Tell us what you are dealing with when you call (949) 848-5281 and we will schedule enough time to finish in one visit.
